Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards produces three roofing-compatible systems: the Corrugated Series (16-inch coverage, 29-gauge substrate), the Standing Seam Series (12-inch and 16-inch panel widths, 26-gauge with Kynar 500 finish), and the Shingle-Style Series (mimics dimensional asphalt, 24-gauge core). The critical compatibility point is the clip geometry. The Corrugated Series uses a universal exposed fastener; the Standing Seam requires ActiveYards’ proprietary snap-lock clip, part number AY-SSC-12 or AY-SSC-16 depending on panel width. The Shingle-Style uses a concealed nail flange that only mates with ActiveYards’ starter strip, AY-SSS-STR.

To identify your system, check the panel edge from a ladder: exposed screws mean Corrugated, a raised rib with no visible fastener means Standing Seam, and a shingle-like tab with a hidden nailing zone means Shingle-Style. The model stamp is on the backside of the end panel, readable with a phone camera and flash. We stock OEM clips and sealant for all three series. Aftermarket clips exist for the Corrugated line from DripStop and Metal-Era, but we do not recommend them for Standing Seam or Shingle-Style - the tolerances are too tight, and we’ve seen wind uplift failures where the aftermarket clip didn’t fully seat. Signs Your ActiveYards Roofing Is Failing

• Lifted ridge cap or gable trim. The butyl tape beneath ActiveYards’ ridge assemblies loses adhesion after 8-12 years in Sunnyvale’s sun. Water enters at the peak and runs down the panel undersides, often missing the attic entirely until the insulation is saturated.
• Panel oil-canning or waviness. Thermal expansion between clips creates visible ripples in flat panel areas. This is cosmetic at first, but stress-cracks the Kynar finish, exposing the galvanized substrate to the salt air that reaches us from the Bay on westerly days.
• Rust streaks at clip lines. The clip-to-panel interface is the galvanic weak point. When the factory EPDM washer degrades, electrolysis between the aluminum clip and steel panel accelerates corrosion. We catch this early on inspections in the Birdland and Ponderosa neighborhoods.
• Interior drips that stop and start. ActiveYards’ standing seam panels channel water lengthwise. A leak at one seam may travel 10 feet before dropping, making the source hard to trace without removing panels - which requires releasing the clip set with a specific hand tool.
• Fastener back-out on Corrugated Series. The neoprene washer hardens and the screw loosens in the substrate. On south-facing roofs in Sunnyvale, we’ve measured 1/8-inch back-out in as little as six years. Each loose fastener is a potential tear point under wind load.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground. You can walk the perimeter with binoculars, note lifted edges or rust streaks, and check the attic for water stains after rain. What you should not do: walk a metal roof without proper fall protection, attempt to release Standing Seam clips without the AY-SSC-TOOL (improper prying deforms the seam and voids wind warranties), or replace fasteners on a slope you cannot brace against. The clip system stores significant tension; a released panel can slide six feet before you react.
