Signs Your ViewLux Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

• Pavers rock under pressure or sound hollow when tapped. This means the bedding sand has washed out or the base has settled, leaving a void. In Sunnyvale, we see this most often where gutter downspouts dump directly onto the edge course without a drainage channel.

What you can safely check yourself: verify whether the problem is isolated or spreading by spraying the area with a hose and watching where water runs. If it sheets across the surface and drains properly, you’re likely looking at cosmetic joint sand loss you can address with a bag of polymeric sand and a plate compactor rental. Measure the affected area and photograph the paver stamp if you find one.

Where DIY goes wrong: base repair requires removing pavers without chipping them, grading to a slope of 1 inch per 8 feet minimum for drainage, and compacting the base in 2-inch lifts with a plate compactor that delivers 3,000 pounds of centrifugal force.
