Grant Rowan, Owner

I started Rowan Construction Group in 2007 after watching too many homeowners in Santa Clara County get a verbal estimate that ballooned once demolition started. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, we deliver a flat written price with a written scope before any work begins. No exceptions. I’ve personally reviewed over 4,000 project files, and the photo record from every visit sits in our system because the customer leaves with evidence, not promises. I still walk jobsites in Sunnyvale when a foundation issue or a roof-deck detail needs a second set of eyes. Off the clock, I rebuild vintage motorcycles badly and slowly.

Marcus T., Lead Technician

Marcus runs our Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling crews in Sunnyvale and has been with us since 2015. He holds a California C-36 Plumbing license and a C-54 Tile certification, which means he can sign off on wet-area waterproofing without calling a subcontractor. Marcus trained the crew on proper weep screed installation, the perforated metal strip that lets moisture escape stucco and tile assemblies so water does not trap behind the wall. He is the person who flags a subfloor that reads 18% moisture on the pin meter and stops the job until the source is found. He keeps a collection of antique hand planes that he claims are “faster than a router once you know how to use them.”

Dana K., Senior Installer

Dana specializes in Roofing, Windows and Doors, and the structural details that connect them. She came to us from a commercial framing background in 2019 and brought a tolerance for reading structural drawings that most residential crews lack. Dana handles our GAF and Owens Corning roof systems, and she is the one who measures existing roof decks to the sixteenth before ordering sheathing, because a 1/8-inch gap at the eave becomes a 3/4-inch problem at the ridge on a 40-foot run. She can explain why a retrofit window install in a 1962 Sunnyvale Eichler requires a different flashing approach than a standard stucco home, and she will. Dana competes in regional axe-throwing leagues. She is better than you would expect.

Elena R., Service Coordinator

Elena manages scheduling, permit tracking, and the photo documentation system for every Sunnyvale job. Before joining Rowan in 2021, she worked in Santa Clara County building department plan review, so she knows which inspectors want the fire-rated drywall tag visible before they sign the ADU final, and which ones will red-tag a fence over 6 feet without a surveyed plot plan. Elena is the live person who answers when you call, including after hours, because our phones route to a human, not a queue. She speaks Spanish and English and handles most of our homeowner communications directly. She grows tomatoes in raised beds behind her apartment and is visibly angry about squirrels.

Jin W., Apprentice

Jin joined us in 2023 through a partnership with a local trade school and is rotating through every discipline before choosing a specialty. He is currently on Driveway and Pavers and Fence Installation, learning to read compaction specs for Belgard and Techo-Bloc paver bases, the crushed-stone layer that must hit 95% Proctor density or the surface will settle in two seasons. Jin already knows how to spot a failed expansion joint in concrete and explain to a homeowner why the crack is not cosmetic, it is structural. He arrives early, leaves late, and asks the questions that remind the senior crew to explain what they are doing. Jin plays in a Sunnyvale adult-league soccer team that loses most games but never forfeits.
